Parent company Google is extending its rules for disclosure of generative AI content to YouTube. The Associated Press reports notices were sent to YouTube creators in a blog post, to be applied if their content uses “altered or synthetic” material in videos posted to the platform.

AP says the new rule will be in effect “next year.”

The platform will provide creators with ways to note they are posting material that didn’t actually happen or shows “someone saying or doing something they didn’t actually do.”

Google announced rules in September requiring disclosure and warnings for uses of AI-generated content in political ads.
