A British newspaper dating back to 1690 today has an “AI Assistant” to help serve its local market, reports The Guardian. The Worchester News is descended from Barrow’s Worchester Journal, which claims to be the world’s oldest surviving newspaper.

Editors at Worchester News are using a ChatGPT-based copy-editing tool to take facts from the paper’s journalists and turn them into publication copy.

News editor Stephanie Preece says the AI-assisted system frees up their reporters to spend more time on local stories needing first-hand verification.
