Computer science innovator Jeff Hawkins has been pursuing a brain-based model for artificial intelligence for almost two decades. The Gates Foundation has given his research firm, Numenta, $2.7 million to know more about their progress.
Hawkins created the PalmPilot, a forerunner to smartphones, and has devoted his attention to understanding the human brain ever since, authoring two leading books on the subject.
