Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati has been appointed interim CEO of OpenAI in the wake of Sam Altman’s surprise dismissal. Altman was fired in a video call with OpenAI board members, who said in a later public statement he “was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities.”

The board chair, Greg Brockman, was not part of the call and later resigned.

Altman and Brockman were two of the founders of OpenAI, which has been at the forefront of generative AI development with its principal products, DALL-E and the ChatGPT series of models.
