“AI is most visible in journalism when things go wrong.”
– Jade Drummond
The Verge summarizes a global report on uses of AI tools in newsrooms. The report was prepared and published by Polis, the journalism think-tank at London School of Economics (LSE).
The LSE gathered experiences and insights from 105 news organizations in 46 countries, describing their use in three areas:
- News production – 90% (~95 respondents)
- News distribution – 80% (~84 respondents)
- Newsgathering – 75% (~79 respondents)
AI-powered news applications can vary widely, from grammar checking to text authoring, with many uses in between. The Verge says the report shows the widest variation was in news distribution.
60% of respondents (~63) noted concerns about the ethics of AI in journalism.
