Google is sprinting to turn generative AI into a commercial advantage after years of leading the AI marathon, reports Bloomberg. A self-declared “AI-first” company since 2016, Google R&D dominated published research papers between 2020 to 2022, according to an analysis by Zeta Alpha the story cites.

  • “Silicon Valley has entered a full-on hype cycle,” says Bloomberg.
  • Many startups in the generative AI space are run by ex-Google employees.
  • Legacy companies being superseded by newer, nimbler ones was most famously seen when research at Xerox Parc‘s groundbreaking work in computer interfaces was adapted and commercialized by Apple and Microsoft, quickening the personal computer disruption.
