This could be a “breakthrough year” for AI in journalism, suggests the latest report on digital trends from the Reuters Institute. The AI section is one of eight in its annual forecast.
The report says the recent release of ChatBPT makes AI capabilities accessible in prototype form and also “gives a real sense of where AI may be heading.”
It highlights several ways AI capacity is being put to use in newsrooms.

The report also flags developments to watch for, including new measures to address ethical and regulatory dilemmas and more emerging technologies. As an example, it points to synthetic avatars and their current use in Korea and China.
