‘We are going to use our brains and time in more enterprising ways during earnings season.’
– Lou Ferrara
The Associated Press managing editor for business news, Lou Ferrara, outlines their rationale for automating AP’s reporting of U.S. corporate earnings stories. AP is partnering with Automated Insights, a natural language processing company, and Zacks Investment Research.
Ferrara says with the new technology, AP can scale from 300 stories done manually to about 4,400 produced by the automated system.
Their intent, he says, is not to reduce staff but to enable more time for richer stories.
