An annual index of key indicators compiled by the AI research community says AI research continues to be predominantly male-driven.
Other findings in their review:
- Demographics of AI professors: 80% male (sample of seven leading faculties worldwide)
- The applicant pool for AI jobs in the : 71% male
- Largest originators of AI papers in 2018: Europe (28%), China (25%), USA (17%)
- Where business is using AI: Strengthening core areas; for example, in supply-chain management for retail; in risk for financial services, in manufacturing for automotive
- Training time for a network to classify images using ImageNet, Jun 17 to Nov 18: 16x faster
- Media coverage of AI, 2016-2018: 2.5x more positive
